about me

aboutI am a middle-aged Norwegian-American man who has lived several different places around the United States, but who has now returned “home” to the place where I grew up. I was born and raised by my parents in the Sacramento area of Northern California. I have one brother who is a few years younger than me. I’ve been married, and I’ve been single. I am currently the latter. My father’s parents immigrated to America from Norway during the early 1900s, hence my self-proclaimed “Norwegian-American” status. My mother’s ancestry is a bit more varied, of multiple European origins with a bit of American Indian thrown in for good measure.

During my life I have developed a multitude of interests, and am still discovering new ones as each year passes. As long as I can remember, I have always been interested in the sciences. A few of my science-related interests include astronomy, geology, physics, and “how things work” in general. Some of the interests that I developed, either as a child or as I’ve matured, include reading, aviation and space travel, history (European and ancient civilizations), genealogy, travel, philosophy, and more. Some of my hobbies through the years have included flying radio-controlled sailplanes (gliders), gold prospecting, collecting old Scandinavian coins, bird watching, and photography. In this blog you might find me writing about any of my interests or hobbies, entertainment, philosophy, or just life in general as it unfolds in front of me. I may occasionally use this space as a sounding board to talk through some personal issues that I might be experiencing as well.

… and yes, I know that Viking helmets did not have horns, but the symbology is iconic.

Thanks for the nomination, LKS!… I’ll try to respond (retaliate?) as quickly as I can… but with the criteria (11 people with less than 200 followers), it may take me a little while to respond in kind. 🙂

I miss reading your posts. Perhaps you are too busy planning your next adventure. Or editing the photos from your last. Best wishes to you in the New Year, Mr. Viking.

I’ve been away from WordPress for a few months, trying my best to appear normal and upbeat in public, but generally trying to avoid facing the realities of life in my personal life (i.e. escaping reality by watching a lot of TV and movies, drinking, being sedentary and basically living like a hermit). Thank you for the well-wishes. I do have some of the photos from my vacation edited, so I’ll try to get a post up soon to at least share some of those.

So glad to hear from you! I resonate completely with this. Please send me an email so I have yours. New laptop (finally ditched that abysmal Vista) and lazy about figuring out the transfer of stuff.
